From July 15 to July 26, Harbin Institute of Technology hosted an Global Summer School focusing on “Structural Design and Dynamics of Novel Aerospace and Aircraft.” This event was part of the 2024 Global Summer School organized by the Undergraduate College and conducted by the Department of Aerospace Science and Mechanics.
The summer school attracted 32 students from various universities, both international and domestic. Among the prestigious institutions represented were Saint Petersburg State University, Bauman Moscow State Technical University, the Moscow State Institute of Aviation, Amur State University, and the Moscow State Institute of Steel and Alloys. Domestic participants included students from the University of Hong Kong, University of Science and Technology of China, Nanjing University, Shandong University, and Dalian University of Technology.
The program featured contributions from renowned experts, including Professor Shan Jinjun, an academician of the Engineering Academy of Canada and a professor at York University, and Professor Yasser M. Shabana, head of the Mechanical Design Department at Cairo University, who offered specialized short courses. Additionally, Professor Qing Xinlin, director of the Aviation Health Management Research Center at Xiamen University, and Professor Li Xiaole, a senior research scientist at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology, delivered a series of insightful lectures.
Participants also engaged in various practical activities such as the “International Mechanics Exploration Competition,” the “International Moon Day” seminar, and tours of facilities including the Mechanics Innovation Practice Base, the Aerospace Museum, and the University Museum. Overall, the summer school successfully fostered a deep interest in mechanics research among students from around the world, encouraging them to explore cutting-edge knowledge, address common challenges, and build academic connections with peers from different countries.
