From July 8th to July 19th, the “A New Generation of Intelligent Information and Communication Technology” Global Summer School took place at Harbin Institute of Technology as planned. This event was part of the 2024 Harbin Institute of Technology Global Summer School, organized by the Undergraduate College and hosted by the School of Electronics and Information Engineering. It attracted 42 students from domestic universities like the University of Hong Kong, Fudan University, University of Science and Technology of China, and Shandong University, as well as international participants from countries such as Russia and South Korea.

The summer school focused on cutting-edge technologies in fields like 5G, artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and edge computing. Through lectures and courses led by world-class scholars, students gained insights into the latest developments and future trends in advanced information and communication technology. The program deepened their understanding of intelligent information technology, new-generation communication technology, and the Internet of Things, highlighting the impact of these technologies on global landscapes and human lifestyles in the era of smart manufacturing and AI. The summer school aimed to inspire innovative thinking and enthusiasm for learning, cultivate interest in future technology and interdisciplinary research, and lay a solid foundation for future work and research in

these fields.

The program included a comprehensive learning plan, featuring five distinguished professors and scholars from both domestic and international institutions. Notable speakers included Professor Xiaohua Chen from Cheng Kung University in Taiwan and Professor Wei Ni, Chief Scientist at the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization in Australia. They presented four advanced lectures on topics such as “Artificial Intelligence in Physical Layer Transmission,” “Latest Developments in Edge Computing,” and “6G Wireless Communication: Technical Issues, Challenges, and Applications,” as well as a specialized course on “International Cutting-Edge Technologies for 3D Video Signal Compression and Communication.” An open, hands-on experimental course, “Radio Transceiver Production,” was also included, focusing on practical skills with teacher guidance, aimed at fostering students’ engineering awareness and innovative thinking.

MAWANDA VINCENT from the Moscow Institute of Steel and Alloys

“This global summer school was an unforgettable experience. We heard from several leading scholars in intelligent information and communication technology and developed practical skills through hands-on experiments. The Chinese students were very friendly and supportive, helping us build lasting friendships. The two weeks broadened my international perspective and deepened my interest in this field. I hope to return to China and Harbin Institute of Technology in the future.”
